Why should I use a humidifier?

The real question is why shouldn’t you? Humidifiers add moisture to indoor air, relieving congestion from the common cold and flu and soothing scratchy throats, dry skin and eyes, and irritated sinuses. Perfect for babies, adults, and everyone in between, a humidifier’s additional moisture thins the mucus in the sinuses, making it easier to breathe. (And we know that when it comes down to your family’s health, you’re all about breathing easy.)

Even if you’re feeling great, our Adorable Humidifiers are must-haves. From smooth skin to shiny hair to cared-for furniture, they keep you and your home looking beautiful and feeling comfortable.

Can I add essential oils or medicaiton to my humidifier?

NO. Your humidifier is meant for water and water only. Adding any essential oils or medication may actually cause damage or cracking of your tank – and no one wants that!

But there is good news!  Ask our Customer Service about Crane's new humidifier liquids which add the benefit of aromatherapy without the threat of damage to your humidifier!

How do I start my humidifier?

First make sure the tank is filled with water & is properly plugged in. Then turn the control knob to adjust the mist output so you see mist rise up, but not fall down.

What noise levle can I expect?

Despite some of our loud, colorful designs – we pride ourselves on having whisper quiet humidifiers. The fan in the humidifier whirs quietly as it disperses a soothing mist.

Where should I put my humidifier?

Finally, a humidifier you don’t want to hide! Display it proudly, but make sure it is placed on a flat, water-safe surface at least 3 feet off the ground. If you have wood or water-sensitive surfaces, use a placemat under the humidifier to protect from condensation.  Never use a towel or place the humidifier on carpet as this will block the fan vent & may cause damage to your humidifier.

Why is there condensation on the windows?

Your humidifier is working a little too hard. Adjust the mist output to a lower setting to reduce the humidity of the room, and always keep the door cracked to allow for better air flow. Get the benefits of the humidifier with crystal clear windows!

Why is the white dust near my humidifier?

Chances are the tap water you are using has too many minerals. When the humidifier gets to work, the ultrasonic process breaks up the minerals creating a (harmless) fine, white dust. To avoid this, we recommend using distilled water, filtered water or using a Crane Demineralization Filter.

How is an ultrasonic humidifier different from a "regular" humidifier?

An ultrasonic humidifier works similar to a stereo speaker, except it stays whisper quiet when powered on! The nebulizer vibrates at an ultrasonic frequency to create mist that easily dissipates into the air, rather than droplets that fall to the ground. Ultrasonic humidifiers are highly effective, but due to the vibrations you may notice fine white dust collecting from high-mineral water.

Do I need a filter for my humidifier?

Nope! We are all about simple, clean designs – so our humidifiers work perfectly without the need for a filter. Only if you have water with a lot of minerals & notice fine dust collecting near your humidifier would we suggest using Crane's Demineralization Filter, but you may also switch to distilled or filter water to solve this problem as well.

How do I clean my humidifier?

Cleaning is simple, but very important to keep your humidifier running smoother, longer! We recommend emptying the water tank & basin daily and disinfecting once a week. Use 1-2 tablespoons of white vinegar and half a tank of water to disinfect.

My humidifier is leaking, what do I do?

Our humidifiers are built for all different environments, so it is possible the mist output setting is simply too high for your space. Try to adjust the mist so you see it rise, but not fall onto the surface. If this doesn’t solve the problem, check to make sure the rubber ring inside the water tank cap is secure. If you move your humidifier often, always move the tank & basin separately to reduce leaking.

What is loose on the bottom of my humidifier?

Sometimes during shipping the water level sensor float & cap may detach from the base. A quick fix! Place the water level sensor float (the white washer) onto the tall thin peg on the base. Then place the water level sensor cap (plastic lid with paperclip) on the peg and press until it snaps into place.

Why isn't there as much mist coming out as usual?

Try emptying some of the water from the base. Too much water can prevent the humidifier from misting properly. Also check to make sure no foreign objects have made their way into the base.  Finally, make sure it is not placed on carpeting or a towel as fibers can block the fan vent.

How do I get replacement parts?

Customer Service will be happy to assist you with ordering replacement parts! Please contact us at cs@lakecourt.com or (800) 860-3130.

Do Crane humidifiers contain BPA or Phthalate in the plastic?

Nope nope nope!  All of Crane's humidifiers are made with the following materials: ABS, SAN and PP. The chemicals Bisphenol A and Phthalate are not used in the manufacturing process.

How should I store my humidifier?

Clean and dry the humidifier completely, then remove the water tank cap (& your demineralization filter if you have one). Do not store under heavy objects as this may cause damage.

Can I recylce my humidifier when it reaches the end of its life cycle?

The tank and mist lid are 100% plastic and can be recycled in a regular plastic recycling stream. The humidifier base has electrical components and should be dropped off at an E-Waste recycling center. Click the hyperlink to find an E-Waste site near you.
